Hades #2

Anarchy

Rate this book
Anarchy is the SECOND in a new Shadow Grove series. Several characters cross over to the Madison Kate series but it is not necessary to read MK's story first. HADES is a contemporary new adult reverse harem series, which means the leading lady has several love interests and never has to choose in order to find her HEA.

◆◆◆

Five years ago, I made a choice that I haven’t regretted a day since. I protected the single most important person in my world, my little sister. I protected myself, and I seized control of the Tri-state Timberwolves.

Since then, I’ve wielded that power with an iron fist. Done whatever it took to take care of my people. Kept us out of the public eye, and kept us safe.

Now a ghost from my past is threatening my position. Challenging me. Peddling their poison and breaking my rules. Stabbing at me in the dark.

Blowing up my fucking club.

But this last attack has taken it one step too far. They have no idea the lengths I’ll go to protect what is mine. And Lucas? He’s mine.

They want anarchy? They haven’t seen anything yet.

That’s it. I officially have trust issues.
Tate James has a way with words and writing that make you think you know a character. And then she rips the rug out from under you and a switch flips making you second guess a character. That’s what this book was.
Do we really know any of the men surrounding Hades?? Because now I don’t trust anyone. Lmao.

Anarchy starts off right where 7th Circle ended.
Have no fear, Tate James didn’t kill off any main characters right off the bat, but like I said, she definitely makes you question their morals and desires.

Lucas.. I mean.. I want to call him our sweet baby boy. He’s down for a harem if that what Hades wanted, he’s smitten with her. Charming, adorable, swoony.
Cassiel... mysterious little fuck. I can’t even. I’m not. I won’t.
Zed. He’s my main man. My book boyfriend in this series. I claim him. He’s mine.

Hades shows vulnerability in this books which humanizes her. I really liked her character better in book two.
She has the world on her shoulders, these crazy boys on her mind (and in her pants), a psycho ex possibly risen from the dead, and someone messing with her livelihood.
Plus, she did her sister dirty and hurt her.
It’s a lot. I get it.

This book is packed full of emotion, heat, chaos, and action. It kept me reading in one sitting. And it does leave off on an insane cliffhanger. Like.. a crazy one.
Let’s all hold onto our panties till June 11th when book three, Club 22 hits our kindles!!

I definitely love this series so much more than the Madison Kate series. Hades is such a kick-butt heroine and I loved how her relationships with each guy developed in this book. Lucas is still my favorite and it was so fun watching all of the guys dealing with being in a relationship with the same woman. For how long this was, I would have liked a little more scenes for the external plot added instead of so much romance and steamy scenes with each guy, BUT THAT ENDING. What was that cliffhanger? I have to read the next book asap. I also really loved her relationship with her sister in book one, which was missing for most of this book for reasons I can't say without spoiling anything. I did enjoy how we have a clear overarching plot with someone from Hades' past and I can't wait to see how Hades and her guys deal deal with that villain. I'm scared but excited to see what happens next to these characters!

Narration Type: Duet Narration

The heroine: Hayden Darling Timber (a.k.a. Hades, a.k.a. Daria Wolfe, a.k.a. Dare) - after killing her father and everyone loyal to him, including her own fiancée five years ago, she took over the Tri-state Timberwolves crime syndicate and became CEO of a multi-billion dollar business. Hayden has also been raising and protecting her younger sister whom her father had been about to sell into sexual slavery at the tender age of 13. But now someone from her past is after her, and that someone knows things about her that only a few people knew.

The Heroes: Lucas, Cass, Zed - Lucas is a good guy, he is only eighteen years old and supporting his family as a male stripper. Cass is the head of the Shadow Grove Reapers, one of the gangs who works for Hades. Zed is Hayden’s oldest friend and right hand man who has been acting odd lately, like he may be jealous.

The Story: Lucas has been hooking up with Hades and though he works at one of her clubs, he is a bit obsessed with her. Cass has wanted Hades for years, but he is eleven years older than her 23 years and always felt that he was too old for her, though recently he has stopped trying to fight the attraction. While Zed and Hayden have been friends for years and there was attraction between them in the past, they have just been friends and professionals for years.

The first book was good at giving all the background information on each of the characters and the past events that led to the situation currently at hand. Hayden is aware that there is someone following her, watching her and baiting her. That person has also been setting up Hades and the gangs that work for her. They have been dealing angel dust and have paid off many of the police that used to be in her pocket.

This book had a lot more action than the last, there were more explosions, car chases, beatings and all kinds of mystery and intrigue. I liked the fact that Hayden’s relationship with each of the guys is different and unique, and how each of the males has their own distinct personality and voice. Lucas just wants Hayden and whatever part of her she wants to give him, and he gives her peace. Cass is a tall tatted gang leader and Hayden can be submissive to him in the bedroom. Zed is rock steady and someone Hades can always count on.

Narrated via Duet Narration by Noelle Bridges and Lucas Webley. Noelle has the perfect voice for Hayden, who is feminine and unsure of herself at times and hard as steel at times. Noelle is able to put all kinds of emotions into her voice and does a terrific job at it. Lucas has a deep and sexy voice which is great and does different inflections for each of the men.

Good on Tate James for that ending! She hinted at something going on with Cass but I did not see THAT coming…

I’m really trying not to compare this series to Madison Kate but it’s kinda hard not to…
I feel like MK’s story had a lot more balance. She had school, friends, her revenge plot and then the plot which weaved throughout the entire series.
ALL that while also allowing us to get to know those characters.

For this series, we’ve only briefly seen Hades at work. There is Seph but James got rid of her pretty quickly.
It really feels like most of these last two books were just about Hayden and her boys… getting busy.
Sure, there is that Chase plot (which I’m sure will be stretched out until the end).

With the first series, we actually got to know those characters, one by one.
I feel like, besides all the flirting and teasing, there hasn’t been any real conversation where we learned a whole lot about these guys.

I do appreciate the little mysteries surrounding Lucas. Like his mother’s past and his uncle. And ok, that letter at the end was pretty open…

It’s just… characters are my favourite part of any story and while they all have their own individual personalities, I’d love to get to know them more!
Now that I think about it, Hayden did reveal some pretty intense things about her past so I’ll give her that.

Nothing to complain about with the audio version! Both narrators work perfectly for this series.

TATE JAMES YOU ARE A SAVAGE.

Anarchy. Per usual, Tate is giving complex dimensions to this story. Of course, we have literal anarchy- a twisting, jaw dropping, swoony and heartbreaking narrative arc that keeps the pages turning. Chaotic action, danger, suspense, and delicious sexy times. But this story is really about the parallel EMOTIONAL anarchy- Hayden trying to come to terms with the shifting relationship dynamics all around here. New truths, new feelings, changing trust and intimacy, the fear and stigma of her own vulnerability. For so long, Hayden has led, has survived, in isolation- she revels in her fierce independence and self-sufficiency. She’s convinced herself she needs it for her image, when really it’s her safety blanket. And now she has to deal with the CHAOS of the relationships around her- that are surprisingly grounding, emotionally catalytic, liberating even. So this story is really about the chemistry- Hayden leaning into the relational anarchy of these three complicated men. Tate uses book two to really explore, challenge or strengthen, Hayden’s interests- while also intentionally starting to build their chemistry with each other.

Tate continues to innovate and elevate the reverse harem genre- and here we have the most interesting, most unique harem I’ve encouraged. The power dynamics, the nuanced relationships, the complicated histories- it makes for such a compelling chemistry. Reverse harem has long since been proclaimed as an extra-feminist romance genre, but Tate has once again redefined it. Giving Hayden ALL of the power- emotionally, even physically, within the relationship and without- is pinnacle feminst harem. This is a heroine completely realized as a character without them, and instead of the usual trope, Hayden herself is the hold out to intimacy. She’s the one holding back- while the men are besotted and unconditionally devoted. Men whose only connection and tie is HER. And each relationship is a different manifestation of aspects of her identities- a different match an emotional need. It’s truly brilliant, different, captivating. And I love how Tate is using contrast to elevate the beautiful intricacies of Hayden’s connection with each of the men. The juxtaposition of the sweet and the savage. How these realities can exist in different ways in all of them.

Surprising me yet again, Tate reveals so much in this story about the external mystery that it’s a bit terrifying- you know she’s got something even more brutal up her sleeve if we know this much of the game in book 2. And this story moves at a breakneck pace until the LITERAL worst cliffhanger Tate has ever written- I’ve never been so shocked, heartbroken, devastated, and desperate.

Another mind blowing addition in the Hades Series...Author James keeps doing it better and better...
After Book 1, I thought we knew the type of Woman Hades is...she is strong, ruthless and Merciless in how she rules the town and the gangs...but this time her vulnerability shows through the curtain she hides behind...Out of all of the guys...Lucas is my favorite.
Whenever I read Author James's books, I immediately get connected to the characters...Hades and her men are no different.
I love how all the power remains with the female character yet you could still feel the feminine, vulnerable side of her and the dominant Alpha side of her Kings....
This book started with a blast...and the end!!! The cliffhanger was brutal for me....the wait will be agonizing...no matter how many book I read from this author, she never seizes to surprise us with her end. I adored Lucas...the unique friendship and more she has with Zed and the ups and down she has got with Cas...well, Cas was definitely a harder nut to crack but he is a softy inside!😍...
I want more so much more from all the men...One thing is for sure, I don't know if I want to Hades or to be with her...Definitely one of the best Female MC I have ever read...

𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐉𝐔𝐑𝐘: Definitely...Definitely...Definitely I am recommending this whole series...full of suspense, engaging plot line and incredible characters and so much action...and don't forget the steamy, hot scenes!!!

Oh my fuck. My heart is in my throat and I want to throw my kindle across the damn room. I did not see the ending coming. I feel like there has to be a catch or there has to be something we’re not seeing. I can’t stomach this being final.

This book was both thrilling and frustrating. I didn’t like Hades near as much as I did in the first book, and I liked Zed, Cass, and Lucas even more. I don’t enjoy being titillated for long periods of time, and yes I am picturing Angela from The Office when I say that.

I was suspicious of Lucas the whole book and got really annoyed that I was being pushed and pulled to and away from him. I was super pissed that Hades kept Zed so much at arms length. It broke my heart a little so I’m really hoping to get some peace in book three because I’m hurting. :(

"Anarchy" is the second book in the Hades series by Tate James, and it is just as good as the first one 👌. It is thrilling, emotional, spicy, and action-packed!
The story continues to follow Hades' control over the Tri-state Timberwolves, a position she has held since making a life-changing decision five years prior. Her rule is challenged by a ghost from her past, bringing chaos and threatening her life, status, and the people she loves. Determined to protect what is hers, especially Lucas, a sweet, young, and innocent guy whom she claims as her own, she is ready to go to great lengths against those who seek anarchy.

"Two against twenty-six? Seems like unfair odds."
I quirked a brow. "Maybe we should do it blindfolded."

Out of all four books in the quartest, this was one was my least fave, but it still sits at a solid 4 stars! I really like the development we got between Cass and Hayden and also how Lucas was brought into the fold! This book set up a lot of hints for the rest of the series.

Also, Zed gave her a red limited edition bike because the colour matched the red soles of the Louboutins she always wears. Goals.

“I’m not asking for forever,
But you’ll give it to me anyway…”

Oh sh*t…Tate James DID IT AGAIN!!!! at this point I want to say I’m not surprised, but that would be lying, I mean that f*ing cliffhanger left me panting, I am so not OK, and I don’t think I can wait till June!!!

Ok so now that THAT is out of my system…OMG OMG OMG what a book!!!! After reading Madison Kate Series I couldn’t believe that Tate could come up with a story just as good, but I was so wrong, this series in my opinion is so much better since we have a prelude series like Madison Kate, I mean I wanted to savor every single word, chapter and situation but I need to know more, and now that I finished, well I just don’t know what to do with my life…and now I’m just sitting here at the corner of my study looking at nothing.

The power that Hades have, has come at a price; not getting attached, not showing her cards, just being a cold-hearted boss. But Lucas, Cassiel and Zed are crumbling those walls, but trusting someone in her line of work is not something she can do from one minute to another, because in one second everything can change…and it will.

On a side note, Cassiel Saint is mine…I licked him so he’s MINE!!

"'He's declared war on Hades herself; there's only one way to end this.'" Zed gave a grim laugh. 'With total anarchy.'"

Book 2 in the Hades was just as epic as I expected. There's lies, corruption, sex and a lot of bloodshed. I really enjoyed this story and the progression of some of the relationships in this one. I have to say, Hades really made me mad most of the time with the choices she would make but I still loved her fierce and badass personality.

I can't even begin to pick a fav of the 3 men. They're all unique and interesting in their own way. We've got cute, loving Lucas, grumpy and sexy Cass, and then the best friend, Zed that Hades is desperately trying to ignore her feelings for.

In typical Tate James fashion, this cliffhanger will literally make you want to cry and scream so be ready for that!

Cliffhanger haters, gird your loins! This one’s a doozy. Luckily for me? I love me a cliffy!!! I absolutely adore the building up of the relationships, especially the bromances. Cass and Hades both managed to get their heads out of their butts. Zed is still acting like a spoiled, jealous child, but there’s hope for him. And Gumdrop? There’s so much more to Gumdrop than meets the eye. I really can’t wait for more of his background! Bring on Club 22! Only 85 more days! 😂💜

⭐⭐⭐⭐💫 WTF stars!

Tate James really know how to build anticipation like a pro!

Her cliffhangers are to die for and I really love that in this one, she didn't jumped head first into the RH aspect.

Hades relationship with the guys is unique and in different stages of their own life, but at the same time, they're starting to get close to each other as a group.

I also loved that the enemy ain't a secret guy to be found in the last book!
I love that he showing his face and his cards since book two!

But fuck me to the bone!
I didn't saw that betrayal coming at the end, or Hades reaction to it!

I'm speechless, and OBVIOUSLY, starting the next one! 🤣

What's a girl gotta do to get a break? Having taken complete control of Shadow Grove and all illegal activity in the area. Instilled fear into even the most dangerous of males and Prez of MC's and gangs alike. Gained a rep that would have anyone rethink their life choices if they thought to muscle in on her territory. Life should be good for her to enjoy the spoils of her success.

Yet. Hades is now facong a ghost from her past, or copycat, who is determined to ruin all that she's accomplished, threatening to destroy or kill everything and everyone. Business contacts, friends, family, and lovers, no one is immune to this threat.

* * * * *

Warning: This is an antihero reverse harem erotic romance. It includes dark undertones and elements of violence and other activities consistent with crime family/gang lifestyles. The adult content scenes are between consenting adults though no crossing of swords content will occur. Strictly m-f though to some degree voyeurism is included. Consider yourself warned

NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO.

Cliffhanger? Again? Seriously? I could care less that the next installment Club 22 will be released June 11, 2021. I'm ruined. With that in mind I feel I should warning potential readers who haven't yet started the series - hold off until series is complete as the author is a master sadist to her fans with cliffhangers. So, while I appreciate the raunchy ball busting strong female lead who runs a crime family with complete spine chilling control and includes a meaningful dark action story line, I'm telling any new reader to series to wait or go nuclear as I did. That is all.

OK. Main characters. I don't think I'm providing a spoiler in that the core main characters make up a reverse harem cast. Hades - female boss of the entire crime family syndicate. Zayden De Rosa - her #2 second in command who has been with her since childhood. Cassiel Saint - Prez of Reapers MC who has been trying to get in her pants but has angst issues. Lucas Wilder - toy boy material who is a fellow classmate of Hades sister. I'll just include that the author has chosen to feature the budding relationship with one man per book. That means that for this installment, one of the three has already solidified their place in her bed and heart while a second will for this story. The adult content is strictly m-f with only a voyeuristic slant that could justify a m-f-m tags. The action is hot though and a good time is had by all repeatedly for those who are on a need to know basis.

Secondary cast. That would be spoiler potential as there is a general series plot developing that would be revealed if I start naming names. Further, the author has inserted several open ended mystery-suspense elements that are not resolved by the end of this book. That all being said I really applaud the way the author has drawn me, the reader, in from cover to cover with minimal lag time scenes.

My issues. OMG. If you haven't picked up that I truly and vehemently hate the cliffy ending. On a positive, I THINK (?) I have an idea of how that scene is gonna play out in the next installment but jeez louise it sucks the big one waiting to find out. Adding. This book is not a standalone. You must read the series in order as it builds off the previous installment.

A big fan of this series though I highly caution any new reader to hold off until series is complete related to a cliffhanger ending for both installments so far.

On a personal note. Model Chris Kash was an inspiration to the author for one of the main characters. Ms. James included a touching personal note about him at the end of this story that had me in tears. Yes Ms. James Chris will be missed but will forever be in our hearts.

𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐘𝐌𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐎𝐅𝐆𝐎𝐃. 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐄𝐂𝐇𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐒.

Tate James is unbelievable another jaw dropping book that takes your breath away. The rollercoaster of emotions & CARNAGE are UNREAL.

And breathe. The supsense, drama, chaos & passion picks up exactly where 7th circle ends. The chemistry, sauciness & heat is HOTT as hell within this book..add in pure danger, damaged emotions and HADES. You're in for one hella of a ride.

"𝐅𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐠𝐨, 𝐈 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐚 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧’𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞."

Hades is showing her true self more and damn you connect even deeper with her and feel every emotion. Her men enable her to connect and be real. Lucas is my baby he is just URGH adorable and gorgeous. Cass is the mysterious hunk and leaves you drooling. Zed Zed Zed.. gahh i fell even more for this guy who loves deeply and owns it!

"𝐈'𝐦 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐥𝐥 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐰𝐚𝐲..."

WTF did I just read.

No, seriously... what, how, WHY???

My brain is reeling and honest to god I fully stared at the book for 5 minutes while I tried to process what the fuck had just happened. Emphasis on tried. Pretty sure I had a mini heart attack with that ending. WHY TATE WHY? 😭 (Low key regretting starting this series before all the books were out cause I don't think I can wait till fucking JUNE for Club 22)

Ngl this is my first ever review of a book. But with this one I just felt the need to let it all out cause MY GOD are my emotions one big fucking mess right now.

Tate James is one of my favourite authors cause she just delivers every single time. The emotions, the feels, the suspense, the angst, the "holy shit my heart just skipped a beat". But this book? This one just blew everything out of the water.

Hades. Omg I think I'm in love. So many reverse harem books now a days have FMC which are one of 2 types. Either you have the super special snowflake, which is one fun to read like once or twice but after a while you just end up skim reading the book and rolling your eyes and thinking "yeah yeah we know you can single handedly get rid of all the bad guys while looking hot and have some emotional trauma that you just get over cause you're just that amazing", or you have the naive princess which needs guys in her life to hide behind cause she just can't deal with her problems herself. Like common people, its the 21st Century and us girls don't need guys to be strong and capable.

Then you have these rare cases like Hades. Sure, she's a badass, but she's also human and has flaws. Her development in this book was just phenomenal. We got to learn more about her past, the trauma she experienced and her vulnerabilities. We got to see the person behind the Hades mask. We got to meet Hayden, and Hayden was perfectly imperfect. She's a character you could relate to, a character whose emotions you felt as your own, someone that made your heart ache as she broke down when her past came to haunt her.

And then there's the men. Oh my fucking god those men.

Lucas - le sigh 😍

Zayden - you have my soul. Its yours 😂

Cass - I NEED AN EXPLANATION CAUSE YOU BROKE MY HEART

And the romance. Honestly, I could write a thesis on the mistakes of romance in reverse harems. You have the insta love where all the men fall in love with the heroine and are fine with sharing her except maybe that ONE GUY who creates drama and angst just because. Then there are the books where authors think that reverse harem = constant smut and you know I like my smut as much as the next girl but I also want a storyline. If I just wanted smut I could go read erotica thank you very much. And then there are those that think that the women having sex with more than one man means slut and therefore the guys can treat her like shit for half the book and then SUDDENLY realise oh wait, we actually love her and the heroine who's been abused by the assholes falls at their feet and forgives them immediately cause they are just SO HOT and thats its ok that they treated her badly cause they had a really shitty childhood and that excuses everything. (Yes this last one is a pet peave of mine. Get some self respect ladies.)

ANYWAYS, this is just to say that thankfully the romance in this book is nothing like the 3 examples above. Instead, the romance is only a part of the plotline (and what a plotline it is *fans herself*), rather than the whole thing, and its also believable. Hades doesn't immediately fall in love with all the MCs but rather there is a buildup of trust and love as she opens up more and more. There are also complications with the whole polyamorous relationship, but there isn't unnecessary drama thank fuck. And to top it all off, there are some sexayyy scenes that are just the perfect blend between steamy and yet not OTT cringe worthy "Imma skim read this cause I can't deal". Thank you smut gods.

Look, for anyone who hasn't read this book, read it. It is so worth it.

My congratulations to the author, Tate James. Abso-fucking-lutely amazing book and its going on my top 10 favourite read EVER.

P.S. Dear Tate James, is it at all possible to release the next 2 books like yesterday? I need my Hades fix ASAP

Anarchy is a wild ride from start to finish and I had no idea what was going to happen next. Although I wanted to strangle them sometimes, there was also really good relationship development between the four main characters. I can’t pick a favorite guy and I’m on the edge of my seat for everything to be settled and happy someday. There’s a crazy cliffhanger which broke my brain, and plenty of action and drama. Tate James has once again delivered a great book!

You can always count on Tate James to end a book on a cliff hanger, swiftly resolve that cliffhanger in the next book...only to end in another cliffhanger. ;_;

I don't buy the cliffhanger in this though. No fucking way. This was only book TWO.

Character sound off and current feelings:
Hades - She remains fantastic and I adore her! Such a badass woman. The RH lover in me is frustrated with how dense she can be and her reluctance towards a certain second in command, but the rational me thinks her reasons are 100% understandable, and the reader in me appreciates the reluctance because ~sexual tension~.

Lucas - SWEET BABY GUMDROP. I love him. We learn some really freaking cool stuff about his uncle and some grooming he may have been subjected to during childhood. To loosely quote Zed, he remains the most secure teenager I've ever read. And hot. Of course horny. AND I TOTALLY CALLED HIM BEING A VIRGIN BEFORE HADES.

Cass - GRUMPY CAT. So fitting. Having read MK, I love that we already know he's been pining for Hades for ages, so seeing him pursue her, his insistence, thoughtfulness, and savage bedside manner is SO GOOD. ALDFKJA;LDKFJ. AND THEN THERE'S HIS LETTER AT THE END. I'm dead.

Zed - I DON'T THINK THERE'S A NICKNAME YET SO I'LL JUST CALL HIM ZADDY <3 So I took a shot in the dark in my last review about him and HEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEH. I. AM. GIDDY. I absolutely love the quiet moments between Zed and Hades. They have so much history and familiarity so they're able to bring comfort for the other or rile the other the heck up.

I adore the guys getting friendlier with each other. The scene at the gun range made me lol. And you gotta love them getting high together.

Plot:
The plot is plottin' here. Some ghost from the past shows up and I'm just ?!?!?!. I think blackmailing is at play, I need vengeance to happen, and I'm just really enjoying the ride. No big speculations, just cruising. (But are Chase and Lucas related...hmmmmmm).

Reservation:
I still feel that the relationships in this are just TOO easy. I want some tension. Give me PROBLEMS!!! BUT DON'T KILL ANYONE. EXCEPT CHASE. HE CAN DIE. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

So when are we getting our first threesome, Tate James?
