“If I was meant to be controlled, I would have come with a remote.”

It’s time to become the queen I was prophesied to be.

The journey to save my kingdom and restore balance to the realm might break me, but I’ll be damned if I give up without one hell of a fight.

I’m not that arrogant girl they all knew in my previous life. Let them underestimate me, it’ll make victory that much sweeter.

I’m coming for your Anshar, and not in the way you’d like.

Ash is ours.

I have to start off by saying OH MY GOD. Again, I need another second to process this Darkness Rising book, too! That seems to be the running trend for this series because OMG MY HEART.

Detonation is the second book in the Darkness Rising series, and when I say I am OBSESSED with Lana and her story, I mean it. I fell head over heels down the rabbit hole for this series in Desolation. Lana, Zedd, Hale, Leo, Luke and my baby Ash. Oh Ash. If you have read Desolation...you know where we left off and what happened, and why I have been SALIVATING to get my hands on this next book. It was everything I wanted, and so much more!

This book picked up right where we left off in Desolation, and we learn SO MUCH about what has happened in Lana's past life, as well as what exactly has been happening to her and the guys - including what the HECK happened to Ash and his soul sucking stow-away. (Don't get me started because I will cry and yell about him, too.) There were so many moments I found myself on the edge of my seat wanting to shout, or curled up crying for these characters. And then there would be a line in typical Lana fashion that would make me snort laughing and probably look like a loon to my family! And you better believe I loved every second of it.

My favorite part of Detonation is seeing the growth that Lana has shown. In Desolation, Lana still had been given a carefree, beautiful life with Beth and the boys after a horrific childhood, but the love and devotion she has always had for her best friends and family has been undeniable from the first pages of the series. Because they ALL had been through unspeakable horrors as children, it was natural that they'd be fierce protectors of one another in any way they could control, and while Desolation showed us the that the guys have sheltered and protected her as much as they could in their time together, Detonation is where Lana flourished under pressure and grew by leaps and bounds as a young woman and future Queen. Her growth arc in this story is a sight to see and makes you ache for her, and for the choices she has to make.

I'm trying so hard not to give any spoilers, because you have to experience this one for yourself, trust me, so all I'll say is that this book was everything I wanted and more, left me feeling things I never expected, and I am DYING to read the finale!! I could write an essay on how much I loved this book and these characters, and I really really need to know what happens next! Brava on an amazing second installment!! More, please?!?!

This book picks up right where we left off in Desolation. It addressed every concern I had from book one about them and their magic. We get to see bookoo character growth from Lana, Zedd, Hale, Leo, Luke and Ash. But especially with Lana, her journey towards becoming the queen her people need was perfectly done. Gone are the selfish moments and Lana gives her all in all things.

Come at me but I am an Anshar sympathizer and this book gave me so much from him and I was here for it. That dining scene was *chef's kiss* There were many a time reading this that I was impressed with the authors growth from book one to book two. I cannot wait to see what she does with book three.

The character who came and weaseled his way into my heart in this one was Hale, I liked him in book one but in this one he really hits his stride. We get to learn more about Lana and her mens past life. The action was fantastic and I loved the magical fight scenes. And that ending was perfection. I was waiting for that and was sending all the messages when I got there.

Highly recommend to anyone who is a lover of paranormal and why choose romance.

Detonation by R.L. Caulder is a paranormal RH fantasy series written using multi POV. I adore this series so much. There's so much going on and through it all, they don't give up on each other.

Excellent characters, fascinating plot, perfect pacing, and only one more book left in the series. Page turning goodness from start to finish. It does have a cliffy.

Definitely recommend for fans of RH fantasy. It's quite a series!

Important characters:

☆ Lana - their center, quirky sense of humor, will do anything to keep them safe

• Ash - trouble communicating, dark side

• Hale - leader, controls emotions, calm, collected, "my little one," virgin, probably earth

• Zedd - sweet, nerdy, virgin, air

• Leo - twin, drama, fire, devilish

• Luke - twin, drama, water, angelic

° Beth - adopted mom

° Anshar - dark fae bad guy that wanted to marry Lana, was her friend since childhood, possessed by ancient god ritual to be stronger

° Erebus - dark god

This is a long one, and I wasn’t aware I had so many thoughts until I began but here goes 😂

I knew I’d love this, and yet I’m still shocked by how much? The first book was insanely good—memorable, romantic, action-packed goodness—but doesn’t hold a candle to what’s been created in the second. Everything I loved about the first was kicked up a notch, or two, or three. The visuals created by the description of the realms is incredible; full of colour, clear images of ‘desolation’ and a unique and exciting paradise, it encompasses everything I think my childhood imagination could’ve hoped for. Magic and supernatural powers is an obvious staple for the genre, but what makes books like this so unique is that it leaves you with a feeling that what you’ve read only just scratches the surface of what exists in the fantasy. I envision the realms so clearly and in such detail that I couldn’t put it into words, and it astonishes me that the authors descriptions have evoked such a visual. It makes this reading experience that much more enjoyable. I’d come back to this for the visuals alone. Like, I just absolutely adore Gaia’s wind-chime laugh, her ever-changing skin tones and elemental features; the dark purple and lonely, dead plant/tree life that comes to mind when I think of Anshar’s territory; the white trees with blue leaves; the physical manifestations of magic; even the hair colours and styles are fantastical.

Then you’ve got the intricately weaved plot. Anshar is a villain who did horrible, unforgivable, disgusting things. Things I sometimes struggled to read. But he was also manipulated and influenced by a relentless dark god. Anshar was lonely, arrogant, and put all his hopes in Lana filling a gap in his soul, and when she rejected him he turned to what seemed like the only option; power. He made a choice to turn to Erebus, but how much of what he did was a result of the dark entities corruption? He used to be the boy who grew up with his childhood crush and best friend, whose world wasn’t so consumed by obsession. Anshar began as the centre focus, but by the end he became secondary to an even larger threat. You’ve got the intricacies of a man on the path of evil, morphing with true evil, possessing the body of an innocent? Ugh 🤯 I just wanted to mention this because it was pieced together so freakin well. Let’s not talk about the bittersweet ending though 😢

I also adore the beauty in that Lana was blessed with 4 true mates, and even though Ash isn’t bound to her like the rest, he remains equally as loved and held to the same esteem as the rest. I mean, this whole book is practically based around trying to save him. It goes beyond the typical ‘I’d tear apart the world for my mate’ trope. Lana’s love knows no bounds. The gods blessed her, but she still gets to choose. Side note: Anyone else notice that Hale and Gaia both call Lana Little One 😭

To sum up, you’ve got a multi-layered plot that’s easy to wrap your head around, but not so easy it’s predictable. Gods, goddesses, rulers and keepers of different realms, of different supernatural races, all intertwined with a girl who just wants to save her loves.

“ When the bad memories seep in and you have flashbacks try and remember the good memories from both of our lives. The ones with your parents. With Beth. With your best friend. With your mates. Not me . Never me”- Anshar

I can’t believe how this book ended .. I am seriously not okay.. I am a mess from it .. I feel like I have been through the ringer with this one.. I laughed, I cried, my heart was pounding and I felt the stress as things all unfolded .. I am not sure what’s going to happen in book three but I’m here for it..

This book picks up where we left off in one.. I was very curious to see what was going to happen and it wasn’t anything that I thought ..Anshar, as much as I loved Ash, he also had me wishing he was a separate person because he just had his pride hurt. I felt bad for him..

Lana has grown up a lot.. I was impressed with how serious she took to training and how she always puts other people, especially the ones she loves first .. but her inner thoughts and come backs has me snorting out in laughter .. she’s still sassy and sarcastic but she’s learning how to be the Queen she was always destined to become..

The guys are all trying and learning their powers and you can tell Hale likes to be the leader .. Also I love Serenity and her men.. the way they all kind of made each other family ..

I wasn’t sure how Author R.L. Caulder was going to bring it in book two but she continues to impress the hell out of me.. her words and worlds are so well written .. I feel like I’m part of the adventure.. I can’t wait to see where she takes us next..

RL Caulder has taken the amazing first book Desolation and made this 2nd a true epic saga. We follow Lana and her mates as they enter their realm for the 1st time but unknowingly, coming straight into a mesh of the past and present. These twists and turns i could not keep up with..It is fantastic. So many surprises that I did not see coming. But the range of emotions from the playful happy Lana to the devastating blows shes been through and the ones she still has coming, all to tie up in the most epic cliffhanger Ive read in a long time. I think I sat there for a good 5 minutes just reeling with the ending...Lana, Ash, Hale,Zedd, Luke and Leo are truly characters that will linger in my soul for days to come..I already need the next one please..Truly a fantastic tale..

Wow that ending was like watching a the last 30 minutes of a Marvel movie with the tv on full blast and then it ending with a cliff hanger. Oh my poor heart.
I am loving the character strength that the guys had in this story and most of all, the growth that Lana showed in this book.
There was so much happening, just when I think we might get out of the woods with Ash, now we have Hale to worry about?? Oh MAN. This next book is going to hurt me and I hope that the beginning starts out totally opposite than how it ended. Except I am happy with all these powers Lana got. I do hope there is some naughty sex with Lana, Luke, Leo, Hale, Zedd and Ash in the last one.
Love love loved.

It's honestly hard to put into words how much I adored this book. There are times when a new author comes along with a work that seriously resonates. Even though this is a PNR, the emotions can translate to anyone. If this author can write this well and it's only her second book, I absolutely cannot wait to see how she takes this world by storm. Amazingly written. The characters are perfectly imperfect. The storyline is as unique as the author and I love that I get to be one of the special people to see where the author goes next. Amazing job.

God-like

Where do I even begin?

Book 2 sees us picking up from that freaking cliffhanger of a cliffhanger like what?!?!

Lana is growing up, she's realizing how unselfish she needs to be in all realms. Her mates also need to learn how to be unselfish.

In Detonation, we get more questions and we get answers y'all! So many answers to so many things before Rach mollywops us with another impressive cliffhanger that had me go da faq?!?!

Devastation will be one godly epic finale.

This second book in the Darkness Rising series is even better than the first one. Poor Lana and her men are going through the wringer all because of events in the past. We find out more about what actually led up to that one catastrophic event, and we learn even more secrets, get some shocking reveals, and the characters go through some growth. This book was action-packed from beginning to end, and I really love this series. I can’t wait until the next one comes out. If you are hesitant about RH, still give this one a try. Highly recommend.

So if you read the first book you already know where we left off and what happened, and why I couldn't wait to get my hands on the next book. If I thought book one was amazing the second one was truly epic!! Book 2 picks right up where we left off in Desolation. We learn so much about what happened in Lana's past life, as well as what exactly has been happening with her and her guys. Including what going on with Ash. I'm trying so hard not give any spoilers, because you definitely have to experience this emotional rollercoaster for yourself, trust me, So when I tell you that I'm truly OBSESSED and invested in this story, I mean it. Lana, Hale, Zedd, Leo, Luke, and my baby Ash. Oh my heart Ash. This book was everything I can't wait to see what going to happen next. As always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.

Absolutely Phenomenal!!

This book was amazing and had you on the edge of your seat the whole time. I loved the story and how things you thought you knew were wrong and in a good way. Lana is a strong woman for all that she has gone through. She’s fierce, loyal, witty, very sarcastic, funny and very loving. Her mates are hot and amazing as well. You will not be disappointed in this book at all. The ending had me crying but at the same time saying omg!! I highly recommend this book and can not wait for the third one. Thank you for an awesome series so far.

You guys, when I started reading this series I had no idea what a roller coaster of emotions it would be. From the very first book, I’ve been mesmerized by this characters, and you know why? Because they are written in such a believable way, such a “human” way, which makes it so easy for us, readers, to actually empathize with their situation. ⁣

I love good character development, and R.L. wrote it beautifully. I adored Lana in the first book, but back then she couldn’t see anything or anyone outside of her family and her own desires. She was learning, but she was still just a girl, dealing with all of these things that were thrown her way. Her world was turned upside down and her main goal was to protect those close to her and to learn more. ⁣

This Lana, this beautiful warrior R.L. gifted us with in the second book; this Lana is a girl that takes responsibility for her actions, past and present. This Lana is a girl that keeps growing throughout the story. I would not change a single thing from that first introduction of her character to now. ⁣

Lana teaches us that it is okay to screw up sometimes. But when that happens, do not hide. Fix it, fight for it. ⁣

While she might not be the Queen they wanted, she is definitely a Queen they needed. ⁣

And boys... My beautiful, strong boys. Lana isn’t the only one going through development in this story. Luke, Leo, Hale and Zedd, each and every one of them are bringing something new to their relationship. And it isn’t the protection Lana needs. No, and they know that. They slowly come to terms that she needs their support, their courage, their unity. And bit by bit, we see all of that happening. ⁣

Ash, Ash, Ash... I absolutely love him. His connection to Lana. The torment he’s been through and is still going through. The strength he shows, I enjoyed every single part. ⁣

I can’t wait to read the next book and to reunite with these characters. If you didn’t read Desolation, start now, because Detonation will knock you off your feet. ⁣

Wow…so much to say. Mind is spinning and emotions are whirling. R.L. Caulder has written a outstanding paranormal read that touches on some tough subjects. Detonation is not for anyone that has triggers that being said R.L. Caulder was able to write about some tough subjects that can be a trigger for some but not in a way that is “preachy” and feels like it is all about what happened per se. I guess I night be misunderstood here but I am having a tough time saying what I want to without giving anything away. I love paranormal reads because it may be dark and twisted but you can read it and feel it but not necessarily focus on only that one event. Detonation does that or at least for me it does. There is just so many events and situations that the story just keeps moving forward. R. L. Caulder created a fantastic world and some wonderful characters and some very dark ones too. For me, it is all about imagining and reading so fast so that you can find out what will happen next. I want to know and but I don’t want to miss anything either so sometimes once I find out what I wanted to I will go back and see if I missed anything. Lana had so much happen to her and she was able to rise up and keep going. That and being able to imagine events as well as feel what is being written as they take place is what makes a great 5 ⭐️ read in my opinion. Other things I look for is that it’s not predictable and if I am engaged or not. Detonation in my opinion has all of that and deserves the 5 ⭐️ rating. This is the 2nd book in the series so it does end in a cliffhanger. I can’t wait for the next book to come out which is Devastation. Highly recommend.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.7

That’s right.. I’ve gone totally rogue and have done a .7. Read chapter 19 guys. You’ll understand, and if you don’t then where is your heart?! WHERE IS YOUR HEART?! If you have read chapter 19 and want to join the support group, come find me.

Anywaaaaaay.. onto the review. Lana, Lana, Lana. Where in book 1 I wasn’t her biggest fan, this book turned it around for me. The growth she undertakes through this book is immense, gone is the self absorbed girl from book 1 and by the end of the book we have a woman ready to lead. And honestly, I loved that. It was a progressive growth throughout the book.

“You’re doing this for love. Love isn’t always this bright ball of light. Sometimes, it’s dark, twisted and ugly.”

What I also love about this book is the multiple POV’s, so not only are we following Lana on her journey, but we’re also with all the guys too. They are each coming into their own throughout this book and sometimes that ends up being in ways they thought best suited one of the other guys. They are coming out of their “pigeon holes” and learning to harness their powers to be the best Mates they can be, not only for Lana but also for each other.

After that ending, I am even more excited for book 3. Some questions were answered but more were raised.. which I can’t go into without spoilers, but I just want to say I definitely recommend this book (minus chapter 19 because I am just not ok). I’m glad I gave Lana another chance and I implore you all to do the same.

Detonation is book 2 in the Darkness Rising series and it did not disappoint! My heart was split wide open in this book and the masochist in me couldn't get enough.

Lana is back and fiercer then ever. I loved her in book 1 but her growth in book 2 was phenomenal. She proved she has a heart for her people and for her guys. They guys are all back- Zedd, Hale, Leo, Luke and Ash. I love them all and I felt even the guys did a lot of growing, especially the twins. We learned bits and pieces about each of them and saw different sides to them that helped you understand them and their love for Lana. And Ash, my dear, sweet, broken Ash. He has been through hell and yet somehow he still keeps fighting. He slays me.

I have been dying to get my hands on this book after the ending to Desolation. I NEEDED to find out what happens next. Well, this book picks up right where we left off and was so much more than I imagined. Detonation kept me on edge the entire time. The details were amazing!! I felt like I could see every scene as if it was being played out in front of me. It was wonderful!!

This books hits you right in the feels. It gave us answers to questions but also brought on new ones. The ending was well, lets just say that it left my heart bleeding out on the floor. It was sooooo good and I seriously can't wait for book 3. I just know it's going to be an epic finale and I am here for every word of it!!

Detonation by R.L. Caulder was one of my most anticipated reads for October and it is seriously amazing! I cannot recommend this series enough!!

The story picks up right where Desolation left off with Lana trying to rescue Ash after he was basically possessed by Anshar. Lana really starts to come into her own since she is separated from the rest of her mates and as she develops and learns more about her powers. I loved that she was able to grow more independent while also learning more about how to be a Queen. Her character growth is just so beautifully written. Lana has to make so many tough choices in this book that just make your heart hurt for her. I also love how this book is told from multiple POVs and feel like it really added to the story being able to read it from everyone’s perspective.

This is a fast-paced, action-packed story from the very first page to the last page. The last few chapters had my heart racing as I was frantically trying to read faster to find out what happened next, but at the same time I wasn’t ready for the story to end. This book does end on a cliffhanger that had me staring at my kindle in disbelief because I don’t know how I’m going to wait for book 3 now 😭 R.L. Caulder is definitely going to be a one-click author for me from now on, and I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next!

R.L. Caulder has completely outdone herself with this book! I wasn’t sure what to expect coming into book 2 after loving Desolation so much, I didn’t know quite where this story was going to take us, and RL sure did not disappoint!

This story was extremely action-packed, certainly never a dull moment. I was literally hanging on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what would happen next. Lana continues to impress me. From her strength and kindness, to her love and loyalty, and I certainly love her sassy unfiltered mouth LOL! Her determination does not falter for either her mates or her people and those she cares for.

Book 2 gives us a deeper look into Lana’s past and how all of those moments and events led to the present. So much is explained with so many phenomenal new twists and turns that are sure to have any reader pausing their reading and saying ‘what just happened!?!?’. But I’m telling you, every twist and turn is worth every second and trust me when I say there are absolutely things you’ll never see coming!

This book was absolutely incredible! From the depth, detail and overall amazing storyline, to intriguing characters, and an all-around extremely well written book there is so much to love!

Highly recommended read!

The second instalment in this series , really felt like the author found her groove with exploring the fae side . We continued where we left off with the first book and honestly that felt a like good starting point considering how the first book played out.

With readers having a sound understanding of the dynamics of the harem given their shared pasts from book one. This book allows us to see how big of role Lana has to play in this realm. That she been born to be a Queen and needs to grow into this role.

Lana has been sheltered despite her traumatic childhood prior to Beth. The boys really took their time in the first book and now that she is given the leader role. It wasn’t going to be easy especially given Ash.

If you know what happened with Ash previously you will be curious to know what happens. Caulder addresses it perfectly in this second book. The questions are answered as the harem grows into deeper sensual relationship and their bonds grow deeper.

They have moved past from the easy banter and sweet nicknames. There is a lot at stake and I can’t wait to read the finale and see how things will play out.

Detonation (Darkness Rising #2)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I am not okay. I motherfucking repeat, I am NOT okay. RL, my girl, please make this right in Devastation. I’m counting on you.

Detonation starts off right where Desolation ends (after a prologue which, honestly, between that and other moments made me a minority Anshar sympathizer 🙊).

This story focused on Lana and her men working on their powers to prepare for the inevitable war.

With the weight of memories from
her precious life and what’s now to come, Lana shows how much she’s grown and matured. She’s still witty as shit, but she thinks before she speaks and controls her emotions. The hardest enemy is the one you can’t see, and the group is facing this danger.

And then we get to the cliffhanger. I repeat, I. Am. Not. Okay. I need to read Devastation, like yesterday.

This book definitely has darker themes than book 1. It definitely reminds you how fucked up things have gotten during the time Oslana was gone.

100% I would recommend this series to anyone and everyone.

RELEASING OCTOBER 24Th, 2020

This book was well worth the wait and a great continuation of the first book. I am not a huge PNR reader but this book has captured my attention and is not letting it go.

Growing up different from her first life, Lana has a feel for true pain and suffering and even though no one should have to suffer the way that she did, it gave her the tools to navigate her world and her people. We see the change in her demeanor throughout the books growing into the queen she needs to be and not the immature child we saw in the first book. Not only is she growing but the boys as well. They must be ready to stand by her side and save their world.

This book had many surprises that I didn’t see coming and also parts that make life look meek for a few of the characters. This book will keep you at the edge of your seat with wonder. I absolutely loved this book and look forward to continuing their story in the next installment, Devastation.

I like seriously don't know where to begin. My head is spinning. Lana went to the fae realm and is doing everything she can to get Ash back. Anshar is a total a$$hole and Ash is doing his best to fight him. All the boys are training with serenity and her mates to learn to control their powers so they can go to Lana. (On a side note I do kinda feel bad for Anshar just a little bit.) There's action, suspense, all kinds of crazy and some heartbreaking going on. Greater forces are at play and its gonna get ugly. There are so many twist and turns. I was completely blindsided! So much was revealed and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. That ending absolute blew my mind! My heart was broken and I was crying. Like seriously after all that why would you do that to us!? I can't wait for the next book! It can't come fast enough! I highly recommend this series! You won't be disappointed!

I recieved an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Detonation by @authorrlcaulder IS LIVE!!!

I’m not sobbing, you all are!!!!

RL took us on a WILD ride with this one. This is book 2 in the Darkness Rising trilogy and DAMN was it incredible!!

A RH, paranormal, kickass, romance that will keep you enthralled and on the edge of your seat the whole time!

Lana is a bad ass, heroine who did a lot of growing in this book. I really enjoyed watching her come into her own and accept who she truly is! An incredible arc and we still have another book!!

Don’t even get me started in her amazing men!! Zedd, Hale, Leo, Luke, and Ash were as devoted and loyal as ever! Their stories gave us such an amazing perspective of the love and fierceness they feel towards Lana.

This book will take you for ride and I cannot recommend it enough!! Book 3 will come with a vengeance and I cannot wait to read the final conclusion!

I can't wait for you all to read it 😍

This series has blown me away!

I fell in love with the characters from page one. It picked up speed from the get go and never dragged.

I adored that she went off on her own. I think it gave her the confidence in herself that she needed and she also had to prove herself which she most likely wouldn't have been able to do with her protective alpha males, ready to smite everyone who hurt her even the slightest.

My sweet Ash he broke my heart. His inner monologes and love for Lana made me tear up multiple times.

This book was just like the last one fast paced but never rushed, the characters were perfectly written: strong yet emotional, good yet not afraid of darkness and their love for each other seeps from every page and leaves you struggling for words to describe all the emotions you will feel.

Welcome back to the dark and magical world of the fae. Detonation is another amazing read by RL Caulder. This book is action-packed, gut wrenching and simply awesome. RL Caulder has developed such an intricate world full of complex characters. It feels like you are right there with the characters experiencing everything they are. Lana really comes into her own in this book. She develops from an innocent, just learning she has magical powers, into a powerfully strong queen in this second installment to the Darkness Rising series. I loved this book so much and with all the dark twists and turns, I couldn’t put it down until that shocking ending. All I can say is I need a miracle to happen in the next book. My heart is broken but in the best way. You need to read this five star book today!

HolyMoley! Man I fell and I fell hard for the first book in this series. It is sometimes disappointing when reading the second book of a series when they first was just so good. This book however did not disappoint! I think I liked it better than the first one and that is saying a lot because the first one was perfection in my eyes. I loved the character growth. Lana becoming the Queen she is meant to be. All the guys are so special and so unique to themselves when sometimes characters seem to blend together and get confusing these guys do not. Every character in this series makes you feel for them even the “villain” had me feeling for him. I cannot wait to see what happens. I want to more!!!
